Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. (1 Peter 5:8&9)

Mat 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

You will see or hear this verse or similar ones concerning the birth of Jesus, this Christmas. But here we are not concerning ourselves with this blessed event. However, we are using the Bible as its own dictionary.

The term with child appears twenty six times in Writ not once is the term fetus used. The argument of an unborn child not being able to feel emotions is washed away with “Luke 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy”.

The practice of killing the unborn is spoken of  2 Kings 8:12 And Hazael said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.

But how does a society, as a whole, that once would abhor such a practice become insensitive and desensitised. The answer is 1 Cor 5:6b Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?

It starts by engineered insidious words of euphemisms, double speak. humour (watch your average sitcom) and political correctness. When we let the news media, the medical profession or scientific community set our definitions for what is godly, we fall prey.

We are bombarded with this subtle attack on sin every day. And at last it becomes part of our own vocabulary and when the leaven is finished we begin to call evil good and good evil and we become dull in our hearing and reasoning.

I know of a God fearing pastor who once used the word fetus from the pulpit. When I asked him afterwards about the choice of words, his reply was, ” I knew it was wrong the moment it left by lips.” Therefore, if a Christ Jesus loving man of God can be infiltrated by Satan’s 5th column so can we.
