We are living in a fast changing world. The words given to the prophet Daniel come to mind concerning the last days' events.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (Daniel 12:4)
Let us turn the clock two hundred years back. Who would have fathomed how knowledge could be increased exponentially where elements in the air could be harnessed and be projected unto screens? Who would have thought about invisible things in the air could be manipulated to get things done such as unlocking a car door or setting off a bomb? Who would have thought of men talking to one another thousand of miles apart using a device call a cell-phone? Even children these days can play with palm size toy helicopters in their home through a remote control device. Who would have imagined looking at live images on a TV screen or a computer monitor showing actual events taking place? What we need is to invent devices to capture the unseen elements in the air and make them visible to the naked eyes of fallen men. There are a lot more in the air we cannot see and yet we know they exist, even the very air we breathe. But fallen men demand to see God before they would believe there is a true and living God who made the heaven and the earth. When fallen men continue their quest to subdue the elements in the air and reject God in the process, they are without excuse.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: (Romans 1:20)
For the image of the invisible God has been revealed through the Son of God who died on the cross of Calvary and shed His holy precious blood for sinners so that they might be saved.
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: (Colossians 1:15&16)
It is this same God who had gone back to heaven and will come again to judge fallen men who think they are the masters of the universe. In fact, both visible and invisible things are created by Him. It is God in fulfillment of prophecy allows men to increase in knowledge that the Kingdom might come and sinners who reject Him would be damned.
Fallen men are under the dominion of the prince of the power of the air. The prophecy according to Daniel will soon become a reality.
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things. (Daniel 11:36-38)
The God of forces is now the in thing and futuristic movies proclaiming, “May the force be with you” will be in vogue. In collaboration with the forces of darkness, men will continue to press on to be master of their own destiny to bring in a kingdom apart from the God of creation.
In time past godly kings consulted the Lord before they went to war with their enemies. In our day and age, they would be laughed to scorn. Modern men consult satellite images, sensors, radar, sonar, UAV relayed images and many other devices before they engage their enemies in battle. Who really needs God in the day in which we live? Men no longer need to live by faith but by sight. The invisible things could be made visible now. No wonder the Lord remarked:
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:8)
Nevertheless, the apostle Paul offered believers words of comfort in 2 Thessalonians 2:
1: Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2: That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3: Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4: Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5: Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6: And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7: For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8: And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
So brethren, may the words of the Lord be your comfort and confidence in these very perilous times.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. (Luke 21:28)
