PROVERBS 27:18 MORE UGARICTIC NONSENSE
"He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored."
Proverbs 27:18
The Jesuit biblical contortionist, Dahood, in his book on Proverbs, renders the second half of the verse as "And he who cares for his father will be honored."
Without any evidence whatsoever, and without any comparative Hebrew verses, Dahood is suggesting that adn means father as it does in Ugaritic, instead of lord or master as we know that it means in Hebrew.
This is not only a baseless translation, but it is an amusing one since Dahood used the occurrence of the alleged pair of adn and ?em (mother) in Psalm 71:5-6 to show a correspondence with another Ugaritic text (CTA 24:33-34)
There he tries to make the Ugaritic word adn mean lord when it means father, and here he makes the Hebrew word mean father when it means lord. He switches around the meaning of the word in each language whenever it suits his purposes, but no sound reason is ever given of why the Bible verse should be changed. God is not the author of confusion, but Dahood certainly is.
This is called scholarship?
It should be called chicanery.
